Land Rover Defender Stars In New James Bond Film SkyfallPosted on: October 29, 2012 by megan
Daniel Craig is back as Ian Fleming’s James Bond in Skyfall, the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time.
The Bond series is a British institution with a global reach greater than our former empire, and the latest addition to the 007 collection has successfully carried on the tradition. With the Celebration of 50 years of Bond comes high expectations, and after seeing the movie this weekend I assure you, it will not disappoint!
Bond has always been quintessentially British, and Land Rover is one of the most established and globally recognised British brands in the world. The makers of Skyfall have involved both the Land Rover Defender and Range Rover in the new movie.
Jaguar Land Rover provided a total of 77 vehicles for Skyfall, including the Range Rover and Jaguar XJ as well as the Defender for use both on-screen and as production support vehicles.
John Edwards, Global Brand Director for Land Rover, said:
“Land Rover is extremely proud to be associated with the new James Bond film Skyfall. The iconic Land Rover Defender is recognised around the world for its rugged appeal and the Range Rover is the pinnacle of SUV luxury and capability. Both vehicles are renowned as examples of excellence in British design and engineering.”
A Defender double cab pick-up is showcased in the opening sequence, which supplies a major publicity boost to the Land Rover classic. The vehicle is driven in the opening scene by field agent Eve, played by Naomie Harris, and sustains quite a few dents as it is thrashed around during the many high intensity action scenes. Some 12 Defenders alone were needed for the opening sequence, because they take some serious punishment.
The Defender has been part of the Land Rover production line since 1984, and has paved the way for the likes of the Discovery.
The Range Rover also makes an appearance when Bond is in London. Just as in Quantum of Solace, James Bond ia transported by MI6 in a dark coloured Range Rover.
AmeriCam recently fitted a reversing camera to the very defender that was used in the Bond Film. Almakes 4×4 have recently become the distributor for AmeriCam, so log in to Allmakes 4×4.com to find out more!
Great to see the vehicles we love getting so much coverage in an iconic British film franchise that has such global appeal. Who knows, you could be seeing Allmakes 4×4 splattered across one of the vehicles in the next instalment, I’m sure Bond wouldn’t mind!
I would rate this as being one of the Best Bonds yet! Thoroughly enjoyable, and definately worth a watch! I give it 5 wheel nuts out of 5!
