Land Rover Series I goes in One Direction!

Posted on: February 21, 2013 by megan

As we all know, Series One vehicles command high prices nowadays. Back in October last year, a 1954 Series I which had been built for Winston Churchill’s 80th birthday, had sold at auction in Cambridgeshire for £129,000 – more than twice its estimate! The vehicle had been especially modified for Churchill with an extra-wide passenger seat and heated footwell. Ok, so it was no surprise that this rare antique had sold for so much due to its extremely colourful past and well known owner.

However, one appeared on eBay recently with a spectacularly high asking price, for what seemed like a fairly standard, unrestored 1955 Series I short wheel base. So what was the story behind this one?

Had it once been ridden by a Royal, or owned by a thought provoking political leader?

Unfortunately not, the seller is asking for £30,000 purely on the basis that it was used in a music video featuring the Brit Award winning boy band ‘One Direction’. Don’t get me wrong, I like the group, and their never ending array of catchy pop tunes, but are these teens really a good enough excuse for the £25,000 price increase?

The music video ‘Live while we’re young” features the Land Rover for less than 1 minute, and apparently the band is seen breaking it in the behind the scenes footage!

The 86” is privately owned and rented out via the company TLO Film Services of Eton Wick and remains UNSOLD!
