Team Moose Offroad compete in The Croatia Trophy 2013 [Part 4]Posted on: May 16, 2013 by megan
Results from Stage 7
Our guys came in 6th, meaning they are up to 8th overall in Adventure class. 7 teams are now out in Adventure class and 15 out in Trophy class. We’re the last UK running in Adventure. All the Gigglepin teams cars are now out also.
Yesterday was the final day of Croatia Trophy, with the last 40km of Stage 8 to complete.
Standing 8th in class on elapsed time so far and starting 6th off the line the Moose Offroad team were in an excellent position to place a good time and secure a top ten finish in an event that is being branded the toughest yet.
This would be no gentle drive though, as three teams were close in time behind us and could easily beat us on elapsed time. By the 32km mark our guys had passed a number of cars and easily negotiated all the difficult sections, getting up to 3rd on the road. Then disaster struck and the rear suspension a-frame failed leaving the truck stranded on a narrow track. The support team quickly scrambled the Discovery and car trailer and located the race truck. With a quick temporary repair with some ratchet straps we were able to limp the truck off course and onto the trailer.
The final results haven’t been posted yet, so we don’t know how the other teams did and whether our retirement has cost us a top ten in the event.
The bad luck continues:
With the truck out of the final stage, the team opted to leave camp early and head for home. More problems struck about half way through the drive across Europe when our VW tow van broke down in Germany at 7am this morning.
As I write this, we have towed the race truck and trailer off the Autobahn with the Discovery, while the rest of the team await a recovery truck.
A final Update
The final results have now been posted. Team Moose Offroad placed 11th in Adventure Class out of the 38 starters. Not quite our aim of running everyday and placing in the top ten, made slightly worse by the fact that if we’d finished the final stage we would have been 8th.
However, considering only 22 of the teams made it to the end of the event due to the extreme conditions, we’re very happy. The truck needs some repairs before the next event and the team need to clean ourselves and everything we took!
A message from Paul Acketts – member of Team Moose Offroad:
“Yes we are all back from the wilds of Croatia, It was an epic and at times brutal adventure, with some of the worst weather/ground conditions the event has seen. Now its a case of trying to adjust back to normal life.
Our mission aim was to go there run every day and finish top 10. As it panned out we did run every day but due to being unable to complete the last day we dropped to 11 place.”
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WHOLE MOOSE OFFROAD TEAM, WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ALL OF THE FOOTAGE!
